The city’s built fabric shaped and accrued since the 20th century consists mainly of one predominant building type – the podium tower. The urban context of Hong Kong during the 60s with its land constraints proved traditional shophouses unsuitable for growing needs and urban density.
The existing demands and global investments have reinvented the city into a salad bowl mix of architectural grandeurs.
This project is an extension to a research component of a studio course I completed in 2020. The project attempts to liberate the ground through the V shape bending of the shear wall - a prototype that I brought back from design project in Singapore. Both shares mutual goal, attempting to fix housing shortage and density issues at large.
